Preston Parade is a bumpy unmade coastal road which runs the length of the private Granville Cliff Estate in Seasalter, Whitstable (CT5 4AD/J). I believe it dates from around the turn of the century (19th - 20th), though there is no uniform style to the houses which line the road, overlooking a short grass bank then the pebbly beach, sectioned up by groyns, and dropping down the the water or mud-flats of London Clay, depending on the tidal movement. Looking to the West, one sees the Swale estuary. Out in front, Sheppey Island, and the Essex Coast on a day with good visibility. Large ships pass back and forth on the horizon to and fro Tilbury, passing the windmills to the north-east. Looking east, following the bay round, Whitstable harbour is an hour's walk along the beach.
